About County Detention Complex

The Franklin County Detention Complex is located adjacent to the Sheriff’s Office at 285 T Kemp Road, Louisburg, NC 27549. This facility has recently undergone extensive renovations and has the capacity to house a total of 176 local, state and federal inmates.

If you or a member of your family has received a custodial sentence, the process of being incarcerated can be a daunting experience. On behalf of my Detention staff, I would like to assure you that regardless of the reasons for the incarceration any person detained within the detention complex will be treated fairly and professionally while being detained at the facility, and that all grievances will be addressed within a 24-hour period.

Visitation

On the day that someone is allowed to have visitors, the person in jail will get a sheet to add two visitors to their list. You can't find out who is on the visitor list over the phone, you have to be there in person with a photo ID. For security reasons, you can't bring anything into the facility unless it's for a medical condition. Any medications must be approved by the medical staff. When you come for the visit, you need to show a photo ID. Children under 4 are not allowed in the visitation area. The staff at the jail won't give messages to the person in jail. You can't bring a cell phone. Visits are only 20 minutes long. You need to plan ahead and coordinate with the person in jail to be on their visitor list.

Social Visitors

All video visits are a privilege and may be restricted or denied for specific periods of time. Self-reporting inmates (including weekenders), inmates on disciplinary restriction, and inmates housed in the Franklin County Detention Facility on writ from other agencies are not eligible for social visitation.

Visits are limited to twenty minutes, and an inmate may receive only two visits per week. Only two visitors are allowed per visit, and these individuals must be listed in advance. All video visits must be scheduled ahead of time by the inmate.

Visitors can set up an account with Pay Tel at www.paytel.com or by calling 1-800-PAY-TELL.

Any visitor over the age of sixteen must present valid photo identification, such as a driver’s license, state ID card, military ID, or school ID. Juveniles (ages 4–16) may visit if accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.

Social visitation is scheduled according to dorm assignments. Visitors who are disruptive, intoxicated, fail to control children, or violate Detention Facility rules may be asked to leave or banned from future visits.

Special visit requests must be approved in advance by the Detention Administrator or their designee. Only one special visit is allowed per inmate stay, and special visits are limited to 45 minutes. Religious leaders must provide proof of affiliation.

All visits—on-site and off-site—are conducted by video.
