Detention Administrator

Avery began his career as a Detention Officer in Warren County in 1996. In 1997, Avery left Warren County to work as Detention Officer in Vance County until 1999 when he was hired to work as a Detention Officer in Franklin County. Since coming to Franklin County, Avery has worked his way through the ranks serving as a Corporal, Sergeant, First Sergeant, Lieutenant and Captain. Avery currently serves as the Detention Administrator and oversees all day to day functions.


Avery is a graduate of the First Class at the North Carolina Jail Administrators Institute of Leadership. Avery has completed Proactive Leadership 1&2 hosted by the Athens Clarke County Police Department in Athens Georgia, Leadership on the Line, Professionalism in The 21 Century, The Leadership Role in Public Service, Professionalism & Ethics, and Team Building for Command Staff. Avery is a member of the North Carolina Jail Administrators Association, and a Professional member of the American Jail Association.
