Captain of Investigations

James began his career with the Department of Corrections, Probation and Parole Division in 1991. He continued in that capacity until 1996 when he became a Deputy with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office. In 1998, James accepted a position as Magistrate Judge in Franklin County and was promoted to Chief Magistrate Judge in 2013. During his time at the Magistrates Office, James was selected to serve on the Board of Administration for Magistrates. 


In addition to his time as Magistrate Judge, James served as a Reserve Police Officer for 23 years for the Rolesville Police Department. James also served in a part-time law enforcement capacity for 4 years at the Raleigh Durham Police Department following the events of September 11, 2001. 


James graduated from Bunn High School, received his Associates Degree from Louisburg College and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from NC State University in 1990. James also attended multiple advanced training schools for civil and criminal processes during his time as Magistrate Judge.
