Ken began his career in 1989 as an Agent with the North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement Division (ALE) and was assigned to Franklin County as his first duty station. During his 28-year career, he worked his way through the ranks and retired in 2017 as the Assistant Director of ALE. While serving as Assistant Director, Ken had the opportunity to oversee Professional Standards, District Operations, Legislative Affairs, Training, Recruiting, Field Training, Special Projects, Public Information, Grants, Agents serving on federal task force assignments, The NC Center for Missing Persons, The NC Boxing Authority as well as other areas directly related to the overall operation of ALE. 


Upon his retirement in 2017, Ken joined the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and was selected to supervise the Narcotics Unit. He served as the Detective Sergeant where he supervised the day-to-day operations of the Narcotics Unit. During his time as Sergeant, Narcotics Detectives were involved with the seizure of over $40,000,000 in controlled substances.


Ken graduated in 1988 from NC State University where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science with a Criminal Justice concentration. Ken holds the Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate; he was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine in 2017, and was selected as the American Society for Industrial Security Law Enforcement Officer of the year in 1999. Ken has successfully completed numerous Management and Leadership courses and has served on a variety of boards and commissions during his career. 


In addition to his law enforcement responsibilities, Ken has been a certified instructor and a Specialized Subject Control and Arrest Technique Instructor for more than 20 years. He holds instructor certifications in a variety of other officer safety and officer survival related areas.
