Steve Massey

Captain of Administration

Steve began his law enforcement career in 1989 with the Department of Motor Vehicles and continued his career with the North Carolina Highway Patrol. In 2002, Steve was promoted to Line Sergeant at Troop C in Raleigh where he supervised the Commercial Motor Vehicle section. In 2005, Steve was promoted to First Sergeant and assigned to the Training Academy where he served as Training Coordinator for the Commercial Motor Vehicle Unit. In 2011, Steve was promoted to Lieutenant and was assigned to the Research and Planning Section where he facilitated advisory meetings and reviewed and forecasted agency needs. In 2014, Steve was transferred to Field Operations where he managed multi-million dollar federal grants and oversaw special operations. 

Steve retired from the North Carolina Highway Patrol in 2017 and accepted a position as Chief of Police in Bunn, NC where he remained as Chief until accepting this role at the Sheriff’s Office.



Steve is a graduate of the Nashville Bible College and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology. Steve was awarded the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Advanced Certificate and is a graduate of NC State’s Administrative Office management Program. Steve serves as an Associate Pastor at Kingdom International Church and he serves as a Board Member of the “I Am Outreach Ministry Addiction” program.
